Tennet | Safety Awareness in Virtual Reality

TenneT ensures a reliable electricity supply in the Netherlands and Germany every day. However, working on and around high-voltage installations involves risks. To make employees more aware of safety regulations and protective equipment, we developed a 360° Virtual Reality experience in which safety literally takes center stage.

The challenge

How do you make the impact of unsafe work situations truly felt, without putting anyone in real danger? TenneT was looking for a way not only to inform employees, but also to move them emotionally. The goal: to prevent safety rules from becoming routine, and instead make them a matter of personal responsibility.

The solution

We created an immersive 360° Virtual Reality experience that takes the viewer into the life of a TenneT employee, seen through the eyes of his family. While his wife and daughter wait at home, we see several high-risk situations on the work floor: working at heights, without a safety vest, or near live electrical networks. The user is literally exposed to the most undesirable scenarios to raise awareness of the dangers. We then show the correct approach, in which proper procedures and protective equipment are applied.

The transition from danger to safety demonstrates how TenneT’s safety measures and Life-Saving Rules truly make a difference.
