The Client
The Islam Experience Centre promotes understanding and respect for Islam by addressing misconceptions through immersive education. Their 360° virtual journey showcases Islam’s historical contributions to science and technology, featuring key inventions and landmarks. This experience is presented in schools across the Netherlands to foster knowledge and reduce misconceptions.
The Question
According to the Islam Experience Centre, it is natural to respect everyone’s beliefs. Unfortunately, many Muslims experience this differently, as fear and ignorance often hinder the equality of religious convictions. The Islam Experience Centre aims to change this by creating a virtual journey through the history of Islam. VR Owl was asked to help develop an experience to convey this message.
The Solution
Islamic culture has been the foundation of many inventions, such as the camera, television, and technologies used in aviation. These inventions appear as 3D projections in the desert while a wise narrator explains their origins.
This is shown in the video to highlight Islam’s contributions to human progress. To visualize these inventions effectively, a 360-degree video was created, taking the viewer on a journey through the past. This offers a unique way to learn more about Islam.
The video brings historical sites such as the House of Wisdom and the Kaaba to life through 3D reconstructions based on ancient drawings. As the viewer stands inside the House of Wisdom and next to the Kaaba, the wise narrator speaks about Islam’s Golden Age.
By using motion capture, facial expressions, arm movements, and leg movements were recorded, ensuring a realistic and immersive experience for the viewer.
