How Jansen Huybregts’ VR training improves defect detection in rental homes, reducing errors and costs.

The Client

The client is Jansen Huybregts, for whom VR Owl developed a virtual reality training application.  This project focuses on creating a virtual reality (VR) training program designed for inspecting rental properties after tenants have moved out.

The Question

Jansen Huybregts sought a solution to the problem of overlooked defects during the inspection of rental properties after tenants have vacated.  These oversights led to additional labor, communication, and errors.  The challenge was to create a training tool that would enable trainees to effectively learn to identify defects in a rental property, ensuring fewer mistakes and the identification of all defects during actual property inspections.

The Solution

VR Owl developed a virtual reality (VR) training program to address this challenge.  The VR training immerses trainees in realistic virtual rental homes where they can practice identifying various types of defects.  This interactive training allows trainees to navigate through a virtual home and search for defects, simulating a real-life inspection.  Trainees can take photos of the defects they find, and a colleague can monitor the training and take notes from a second screen.

The VR Training

The VR training involves trainees entering a realistic virtual rental property to identify hidden defects.  The training includes a tutorial in an empty room to teach users how to use the controllers, interact with objects, move around using teleportation, and take photos within the VR environment.  Trainees locate and document defects by taking photos, which can then be reviewed and exported for analysis.  The training is designed to be interactive, allowing trainees to navigate the virtual home and identify defects at various difficulty levels.  A colleague can observe the training from a second screen, facilitating communication and note-taking.

ROI and Results

The VR training aims to provide a cost-effective and safe way for trainees to enhance their defect detection skills and knowledge without needing a physical property.  By simulating realistic scenarios, the training is expected to improve the efficiency and accuracy of rental property inspections, ultimately saving time and costs.
