Zbridge | Bring-to-work operator training
Zbridge developed a VR training application to simulate the operation of its B2W system, providing users with a safe, hands-on learning experience that enhances skills through realistic scenarios and immersive interactions.
The Client
Zbridge Offshore Access Solutions specializes in Bring-to-Work systems designed to facilitate safe offshore access. They provide solutions for transferring personnel between vessels and offshore structures like platforms and wind turbines. To ensure the safe and effective operation of these systems, Zbridge aimed to develop a comprehensive training program. This led to the development of a virtual reality training application.
The Question
Zbridge sought a VR training application for the B2W system that would allow users to learn how to operate the system in a safe, virtual environment. The application needed to mimic the real-life B2W startup process, allow users to experience the roll, pitch, and heave of the open sea, and function with specific VR hardware.
The Solution
VR Owl developed a VR training application that simulates the operation of the Zbridge B2W system. The solution includes a tutorial to guide users on how to start the application, navigate the virtual space, and interact with the virtual B2W system. The training incorporates hand tracking and physical joysticks for interaction and control. The application also simulates the motion of the open sea.
Interaction Controls
The training uses two types of controls: hand tracking for HMI, button, and UI interactions, and physical controllers for piloting the B2W boom. A dead man’s switch is required for any boom controls, and a button on top of the controller serves as an alarm button.
Look & Feel
The user interface features a style designed for menus and tutorial pop-ups. The color palette includes shades of grey, black, orange, green, and blue. The typography uses FF Good Headline Pro Condensed – Bold and Futura PT – Book. The avatars loaded into the trolley have a distinct visual style. The training environment is realistic, set either at an offshore platform or an open sea wind farm, with clear weather except for scenario 4, which features more turbulent waves. Zbridge branding is incorporated into the B2W machine and parts of the environment.
